Good aftercare is what separates a tattoo that still reads well in ten years from one that fades and blurs. Here is exactly how to look after yours.
Keep the initial bandage on for 2–4 hours after your session, and do not touch it with unwashed hands before then.
Remove the wrap and wash with lukewarm water and a fragrance-free antibacterial soap. Fingertips only — no washcloths or loofahs.
Pat the area dry with a clean paper towel. A bath towel irritates fresh skin and pulls at scabbing.
Apply a thin layer of Gorillaz Tattoo Balm 2–3 times a day. Over-moisturising traps moisture and slows healing.
No swimming, baths or hot tubs for at least 2 weeks. Avoid direct sun for 4 weeks — UV fades fresh ink fast.
It will scab and peel like a light sunburn around days 3–7. Never pick or scratch — let it fall off on its own.
Loose, breathable clothing over the area prevents friction while it heals. Tight fabric sticks to scabbing.
Surface healing takes 2–3 weeks. Full healing underneath the skin takes 4–6 weeks — keep caring for it after it looks done.
Redness or swelling that worsens after day 3, pus or a foul smell, red streaking, or a fever are signs of infection. Stop self-treating and see a doctor right away.

Our in-house salve is made for fresh tattoos — it settles irritated skin and helps ink heal faster and cleaner without clogging the surface.
Not sold online — pick up a tin at your appointment, or ask your artist for one after your session.
The surface closes in 2–3 weeks. The layers underneath keep settling for 4–6 weeks, so colour and contrast only look final at the end of that window.
Once the initial ooze has stopped — usually after the first day or two. Apply a thin layer 2–3 times a day and let it absorb; no thick coats.
No swimming, baths or hot tubs for two weeks, and keep it out of direct sun for four. After it has healed, sunscreen is what keeps the piece sharp long term.
